Fintech · Crypto · May 2021–Jan 2022. Case study by Eugen Stoicov, Senior Product Designer in Vienna.
Redesigning the web and mobile investing experience.
Led the web and mobile application redesign, standardized the design system, and used surveys and interviews to inform interface and workflow decisions.
Crypto interfaces are built by traders for traders, and everyone else is left to guess. Candlestick charts, undefined risk, flows that assume you already know. Coinpanion was for the people those products quietly turn away. The brand had the same problem in reverse: it looked like every other exchange, so the only way to stand out was to look reckless, which is the one thing a financial product cannot do.
Two platforms, a product that changed weekly, and financial-promotion rules that govern every word. Social had to belong in crypto culture without ever implying a return. Collectible, not touting. A narrow gap to design in.
Nobody reads a pie chart legend, so I stopped drawing pie charts. Risk became five dots. Portfolios became physical objects with weight and material (adventurous, balanced, fixed income) so allocation was something you saw rather than decoded. That 3D language carried straight onto social, where the December 2021 advent calendar turned the C-mark into a daily collectible. Underneath it, full app and web redesigns and a design system, rebuilt with real users in the room.
Wreath, bells, trees, hats, gingerbread. One film a day, each a variation on the mark. It gave people a reason to come back that was not a price update, which in December 2021 was a genuine service.
The app received a 4.5-star rating. My scope covered the web and mobile redesign, a standardized design system, and research-informed interfaces and workflows.
Focus: App redesign, Design system, Trading flows, Motion, Social / NFT.
